Eight new people in Monroe County have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of cases county-wide to 10.

County Public Health Commissioner Dr. Michael Mendoza announced Sunday night that investigators have begun the contact tracing process of all 8 individuals.

One patient is in Rochester General Hospital, one is in Unity Hospital and one is in Highland Hospital. The other five new patients are at home in isolation.

Mendoza also said one Rochester firefighter who responded to an EMS call for one of the new confirmed cases may have potentially been exposed to coronavirus, and as a precaution, is self-quarantining. The firefighter doesn't currently have any symptoms.

An update will be provided Monday morning.
