GREECE, N.Y. — The town of Greece continues to host a variety of community events this year to celebrate the town's 200th birthday. Commemorative $12 t-shirts are for sale to mark the bicentennial milestone.
What makes it even more special is that 100% of the shirt sale proceeds will help relief efforts in Ukraine.
“We are going to have the tees at our food truck rodeo and Fourth of July celebration,” said Greece town supervisor Bill Reilich. “The people here are very generous. We have seen it through the flooding and the power outages and their generosity and we are seeing it once again with these T-shirts and the money that is going to Ukraine.”
You can purchase the $12 shirts online or you can pay cash or mail a check-in and arrange to pick up your t-shirt at Greece town hall. All town of Greece official vehicles are also sporting the 200th-anniversary logo.
The town was originally called Northampton and later named after the country of Greece, which was fighting a war of independence from Turkish rule.
The town of Greece will have a Memorial Day parade and remembrance ceremony. The parade route from Long Pond to town hall kicks off at 11 a.m. Monday, May 30.
The town of Greece is poised to host the biggest July 4th event yet. The celebration will feature a Freedom Run 5k, Kids Fun Run, games, food trucks and fireworks. Three Dog Night will be performing on the main stage.
