ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester Music Hall of Fame concert and ceremony returns after a two-year pandemic pause. From jazz to drums to folk music, multi-Grammy-winning sound and mixing engineering and Rochester’s renowned music college will be honored at Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre Sunday.
Tickets are still available for the celebration of Rochester’s diverse and super talented musical heritage.
Spectrum News 1 dropped in on a little long-distance rehearsal with some of Rochester’s best musicians who will be jamming with John Dady, who is returning from Ireland to Rochester to be honored along with his late brother Joe. The Dady Brothers will be inducted into the Rochester Music Hall of Fame along with Nancy Kelly, Roy McCurdy, Mick Guzauski, Michael Laiacona and the Eastman School of Music/Eastman Theatre.
“It is so humbling to be honored,” John Dady said. “My co-honorees, the other inductees I am in such incredible company with Mr. Roy McCurdy and Nancy, Mike and Mick and the Eastman School. I just feel so humbled to be a part of this group of people and the past recipients as well.”
The Dady Brothers, American folk mixed with Irish influences, has made the duo a favorite in Rochester. They grew up here. The Rochester Music Hall of Fame celebration caps quite a career of some 7,000 live shows. Joe Dady passed away in 2019. More than 400 people wrote to the ROC HOF to ensure the Dady Brothers got in. John will play Dady Brothers music at the ceremony with eight fellow musicians from Rochester.
“It is many dear friends and collaborators,” Dady said. “I think it’s the same band that Joe would of picked if he was with us.”
Guitar player and songwriter Jerry Falzone is a Rochester Music Hall of Fame board member who is always eager to share the talents and efforts of musical pros that all have ties to Rochester.
“People are amazingly shocked at how deep the talent pool is in Rochester,” Jerry Falzone said. “So to be able to induct people of this quality that are this tied to the community right now is a phenomenal thing.”
The Rochester Music Hall of Fame celebrates 54 inductees to date. Sunday‘s celebration begins at 7 p.m. at Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre. You never know who will drop in to jam. Paul Simon and a Beach Boy showed up at previous Hall of Fame celebrations.
