Seneca Park Zoo is looking for some zoo ambassador volunteers to help welcome guests and enhance the zoo experience.

The new Zoo Ambassador Program is designed for people who like to connect with nature and appreciate the Seneca Park Zoo experience and its 90 species of mammals, reptiles, birds and fish. Zoo ambassadors will welcome zoo visitors and help them navigate the 20 acres of different habitat regions around the zoo.

“You might see a zoo ambassador inside a Step into Africa, where they can tell you about the African savanna and then the animals that you’ll see here at the zoo from that area," said Kelly Ulrich, director of education and visitor studies at Seneca Park Zoo. "At the Rocky Coast, this includes several different areas so you’ll see the arctic represented by the polar bears and snowy owls. This is a very diverse region.” 

Seneca Park Zoo appreciates any and all volunteers. The zoo's docent program is celebrating 50 years. Zoo ambassadors are an introduction to that program. The first training session to become a zoo ambassador begins on Feb. 22. at 6 p.m. In-person training will take place on March 12 at 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

Zoo ambassadors must be at least 18 years of age and have an interest in animals, nature and conservation. and be able to share that with others. Volunteers must complete and stay current on training. The cost is $25 to cover a uniform and nametag.
