ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The cold weather in Rochester on Sunday might have had some people staying inside. But for others, it was perfect weather to go jump in the lake.
Ryan Zamiara braved the cold, waiting to see his dad brave a different kind of cold.
“We’re rooting for you dad,” Ryan said when asked to give his father a good luck message.
His dad is a local police officer, and was one of about 1,500 people jumping into Lake Ontario.
It's all for the annual Polar Plunge. The event raises money for the Special Olympics. Almost $200,000 was raised this year.
You can plunge alone or with a team, like co-workers Karen Harrison and Stephanie Lascone did. They were part of team Chilly Bears.
“It’s cold, but well worth it,” Harrison said. “And we’re going to do it again next year.”
“We have chili and soup waiting for us at home,” Lascone said about her plans after the plunge.
Until they do it again next year.
