IRONDEQUIOT, N.Y. — Hundreds of community members braved the cold to celebrate Winterfest in Irondequoit on Saturday.
Pamela French is troop leader for the Irondequoit Girl Scouts.
Members of her troop spent the day running the marshmallow roasting station at Winterfest.
“We had a good run here for an hour -- good thing we had six girls working,” French said.
Marshmallow roasting was just one of dozen different activities for families at Winterfest.
Ice skating and a giant soccer game helped kids get moving in the cold weather, while animals like alpacas and sled dogs didn’t seem to mind the snow.
“Over the years we’ve added things people asked for or saw a gap in,” said Katrina Hall, director of recreation. "There’s the horse and wagon rides. We have local fire departments here to help with bonfires to keep warm.”
The goal of Winterfest is to get families out of the house and outside, with safe activities everyone can enjoy.
The most popular activity with families?
“It’s always the horse and wagon,” Hall said. “That line is always big. However, I’m noticing the soccer game line is also long.”
Winterfest ran from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Irondequoit Town Hall.
