PENFIELD, N.Y. — The quaint retail corner in the historic Pittsford village along the canal known as Northfield Common is packed with all kinds of shops, salons and eateries. Several new stores opened there the past couple of months. These small business owners would love you to "shop local" this holiday season.

Bonnie Miguel is celebrating her one year anniversary at her shop, Notion. It’s grown from 10 to 75 artists and creatives. Most are from Greater Rochester.

“Yes! They told two friends and so on,” Miguel laughed. “I feel great about it. The people who come in are really interesting as well as the artists and makers too. "

Notion has several new neighbors.

“They are finding out about us,” Miguel said.

Abode is a new and vintage furniture store. It opened in Northfield Common three weeks ago. It has three times the space compared to its previous location in Rochester.

“We picked this space particularly because there is wonderful foot traffic here and we get a lot of people and a little more awareness than we had in our space,” Abode owner Ariane Krenichyn said. “We really enjoy the attitude of the landlord here. They seem excited about getting new businesses in and making this space come back to life. We are excited to be a part of that.”

To keep your shopping energy up, stop by Neutral Ground on the Canal. It opened a couple of weeks ago. It’s coffee, lattes and homemade sandwiches. Owner Marianne Warfle created a private event space too. The building sat vacant for 10 years. Now it’s super cute and cozy.

“Here at Northfield Common, we’ve all been supporting each other,” Warfle said. “I ended up here in beautiful Pittsford village and so I am really excited. Small businesses really need each other.”

From coffee to craft beer, Copper Leaf opened in April. There’s even a slice of Pittsford village history inside the brewery. The bar is made from the iconic 200-year-old Copper Beach tree from State Street.

“I like to say that was a community gathering spot and now they can still gather around the tree and they get to drink beer,” said Bryan Meyer from Copper Leaf. "We looked at this building and knew it was perfect. We love being here in Pittsford."

Northfield Common is located at 50 State St. in Pittsford.
