FAIRPORT, N.Y. — German sausage, plenty of beer and live music will be happening under the big tent in Fairport the next three days. Fairport's Oktoberfest is back and bigger than ever.
A team of 60 volunteers is ready for the annual festival. They're expecting some good crowds because the Irondequoit Oktoberfest did not happen. People are craving some German culture this time of year.
"When you come to our Oktoberfest you are immersed in a foreign culture especially during the day with accordion bands and brass bands and oompah bands and party band,” said Scott Winner from Fairport Perinton Partnership. “There is something here for everyone.”
Swan Market will be serving schnitzel dinners and goulash. Helmut Strudel, the Ice Cream Factory, Chef's Catering, Tuscan Wood Fired Pizza and Affaire de Chocolat will be serving all kinds of delicious food and treats. There will be plenty of beer and live music to enjoy.
"We are very excited to be back,” Winner said. “It is something that folks really look forward to annually. Last year we did some alternative Oktoberfest events but there is nothing like the big tent and 13,000 ft.² and lots of airy space for people to enjoy. There’s food, music and all the German sounds and smells that we love. We are really excited.”
Fairport Oktoberfest opens Thursday at 5 p.m., Friday at 4 p.m. and Saturday at 10 a.m.
Advance online tickets are $8. Admission is $10 at the festival. Free admission for children 12 and under.
Oktoberfest admission is free from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday during the Scarecrow Fest along Main St. Fairport Oktoberfest is located at Fairport Junction on Lift Bridge Lane.
