PENFIELD, N.Y. — Monroe County‘s largest used book sale is back. Volunteers are busy sorting and stocking thousands of books for sale at the Penfield Community Center at 1985 Baird Rd.

What You Need To Know

  • The Penfield Used Book Sale is Sept. 16-18

  • The sale is located at the Penfield Community Center, 1985 Baird Road

  • Prices start at 50 cents

The Penfield Book Sale is a community fixture in Penfield. For 44 years, the community has donated thousands and thousands of books for this sale. There are some great deals. You can find a good read or music or a game for as little as 50 cents.

Last year’s sale was postponed because of the pandemic, so this year's team of volunteers, Friends of the Penfield Public Library, students, baseball and tennis players from Penfield High School, are all hands on deck to get as many books as possible out of the boxes, categorized and on the shelves and tables for sale.

“Soft-covered books are 50 cents, hard covers are $1 and we have specials that range from $2 to $4,” said Maggie Hession of the Friends of the Penfield Public Library. “We have puzzles and games also. There's something for everybody. This is for our community. This is for the community of Penfield and the surrounding areas. We hope that we serve them well.”

Sale proceeds support various library programs and technology to help keep the library up-to-date with all the newest, latest and greatest things for residents to check out.

Rochester police say a man is dead following an overnight shooting on the city's north side.
