The Spencerport Central School District is inviting everyone to a Saturday pancake breakfast and maple tree tapping demonstration.

It's the Nature Center's annual Maple SugarFest and fundraiser.

“Not only do we have pancakes, but we also have an area for crafts, some face painting, snowflake making and birdfeed making out of recycled materials. If there is snow, we have snowshoes," said Linda Howell of the Nature Center.

The 28-acre Nature Center is the district's outdoor classroom that offers outdoor activities related to the curriculum. It opened in 2003.

“At the Nature Center, we have had I think 13 different Eagle Scout projects and volunteers. Any kind of experience like this is great for the students and this is one of the best. We are very proud of it," said Superintendent Dan Milgate.

The kids are learning all about maple tree tapping and syrup making.

"It is very fun. I just love tapping maple trees. It is just so satisfying to watch how the sap goes down in the bucket and you can to see what they do at the boiler and you get to see what maple syrup is really is like," said third-grader Luca Belpanno.

The Nature Center's Maple SugarFest runs from 9:00 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 2. It's located right on the Spencerport Central School District campus.
