Town leaders in Sodus came together Monday night for the first time since a fire destroyed the town's highway department building on Saturday.

"Everybody comes together at times like this in Sodus and in Wayne County and it's been encouraging. Unfortunately, it's been a disaster for us, but we'll get through it,” said Scott Johnson, the town supervisor elect.

At the meeting, there was a sign of optimism moving forward. Steve LeRoy, the outgoing town supervisor, says he met with the town’s insurance company and was relieved to hear they would cover the costs associated with the fire.

"They've made us feel very comfortable that they're going to cover what needs to be covered. I saw no indication at all that they're going to back away from this or give us any difficulty,” said LeRoy.

Plus, the Wayne County Highway Superintendent Association called a meeting where members were present. Other towns quickly offered their support to Sodus.

In total, this Wayne County town will soon have access to six snow plows. They’re on loan from neighboring towns of Lyons, Huron and Savannah.

Help was also offered from Clay and as far away as Albany.

"Saturday night our barn burned to the ground. Tuesday at noon we're going to have a full fleet. That's good,” said Dale Pickering, Sodus highway superintendent.

Since the fire, we’re told there has been misinformation posted on social media, but town officials want people to contact them directly with questions.

"They’re welcome to call me on my cell phone or the new supervisor or any of the board members if they want accurate information. To just speculate and put something on Facebook, its complete nonsense,” said LeRoy.

Even though LeRoy won't be there for much of the planning process going forward, he recommended the town rebuild the highway barn by their old landfill on Allen Road.
