There is a critical need for blood donations here and across the country.

One blood donation can potentially save up to three lives.

You can help the effort on Thursday. Rochester Firefighters Local 1071 and the Red Cross are hosting a blood drive until 5:00 p.m. at the Rochester Firefighters Union Hall at 65 Hudson Avenue.

Walk-in blood donors are welcome at today's blood drive.

"We go to 18,000 to 19,000 medical calls every year and while it is only a small percentage of individuals who may be in need of blood donations, I think all of us have had personal situations where we have a loved one who had needed a blood transfusion," said Deputy Chief Chris Schryver.
