With COVID-19 numbers on the rise throughout Western New York, free testing is now available for those living in and around the Seneca Nation territories.

The JC Seneca Foundation is partnering with community testing services to provide the service outside the Tallchief Diner in Irving.

The Tallchief Territory, Home of Native Pride testing is offered Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Sunday, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. in a facility outside of The Tallchief Diner.

Western New York’s COVID-19 positivity rate reached 7.41% Thursday, with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention labeling several counties as having high transmission rates.

In rural areas throughout Chautauqua County, accessibility is a big concern when it comes to getting a test.

Community testing services co-founder Dave Carr says it’s important to establish more satellite locations like this one.

"So it's all about convenience,” Carr said. “And we need to go to the people because the people can't always travel. And in order to keep the hospitals free for people who actually need services, we can't have thousands of people daily going in to these emergency rooms thinking they have COVID. So it's a pretty good solution to get in to these communities on the local level."

No appointments are required to get tested.

For those who have health insurance, officials are asking people to bring their identification cards.
