The winter weather that has hit the Hudson Valley has left thousands without power Friday morning.
Nearly 50,550 homes and businesses were without power, including 46,400 in Ulster County, 3,320 in Orange County, 620 in Dutchess County and 40 in Greene County, Central Hudson said in a statement released around 4:15 p.m. Friday.
“Repair efforts will continue today and tonight, with most restorations taking place on Saturday and Sunday,” the statement said.
“This ice storm has caused significant damage in Ulster County and, as such, the majority of our field force of 680 line and tree workers that includes mutual aid from Indiana, Pennsylvania and Upstate New York, will be concentrated there,” said Ryan Hawthorne, vice president of electric engineering and operations.
The City of Kingston declared a state of emergency as of 9 a.m. A temporary warming center is open in the city hall's common council chambers.
NYSEG was also reporting outages as far south in the Valley as Crawford.
National Grid had outages reported in the area of Clermont.
