Town of Warwick officials say the Jennings Creek wildfire is now 90% contained, and the DEC says it's now primarily in the Sterling Forest State Park.
Fire officials say they are planning for a reopening of East Shore Road and Edgemere Avenue today.
A voluntary evacuation remains in effect for 120 Edgemere south to Woods Road. Wah-ta-Wah Park residents were allowed to return to their homes.
DEC officials say National Guard helicopters are continuing bucket drops this morning, and DEC forest rangers are leading fire suppression work today with state and volunteer firefighters. The fire, the DEC says, has burned more than 5,300 acres across New York and New Jersey.
The statewide burn ban also remains in effect. Officials are warning residents that they may see burned and decomposing trees fall within the area of Sterling Forest.
Greenwood Lake schools have reopened today after being closed Monday.
