Students and parents are reeling after an alleged stabbing at Middletown’s Monhagen Middle School on Wednesday.

A statement on the school's website said it was a "student-on-student issue." The injured students, the school says, have been transported for "medical care. Families are being contacted."

“I saw a kid walking back from his building pulling [on their side], which I believe he got stabbed after the big fight," said student Jaiden Mojicah. "When I was going down to the hallway, I saw a little blood.”

Superintendent Amy Creeden provided sparse details, saying that it was a student-on-student issue and that two students were injured by what appeared to be a knife.

“A student was allegedly stabbed by a classmate," she said. "The student was treated on our campus by our incredible team of nurses, educators, security staff and administrators.”

Town of Wallkill police say that the victim suffered multiple stab wounds and is stable condition at Westchester Medical Center. Police have arrested a 13-year-old student in connection with the altercation. Parents say there’s one thing they want to see immediately in the wake of this.

“Metal detectors at schools," said Henry Mojicah. "I think that that's the only way they're going to keep weapons, whether it's a gun or a knife, out of schools. So if they do that on a daily basis, I don't think that they'll have a situation like this.”

The school dismissed students early Wednesday, and all roads leading to the school are back open.
