Hundreds of people gathered Wednesday at Riverside Park in Port Jervis for a peaceful Black Lives Matter protest.

The group marched across the city and took a knee for 8 minutes and 46 seconds in memory of George Floyd, who was laid to rest Tuesday.

One of the protest organizers, Arabia Shearn, says it was important for her to work with the community and go through the proper channels to prepare the protest.

"I'm the type of person where I always want things done the right way, and that was number one for me,” Shearn said, “making sure I called the mayor, called the chief of police, and had them on our side instead of against us."

Protest organizers say their message is to spread love and kindness and show the world everyone is the same, regardless of skin color.
