Ulster County Executive Jen Metzger has laid out her vision for the county in 2025 at this week's State of the County address.
Metzger covered several topics including the potential expansion of the county's public transit service, as well as more resources for mental health and addiction resources, like a new crisis center and a street outreach team.
Top of mind for many residents is the county’s investment in affordable housing.
Metzger says they’re on pace to add nearly 500 units in the next two years.
“We have projects that are not only under construction but ahead of schedule," Metzger said. "So new apartments, new homes, both homeownership and rental opportunities are going to be available this year, which we're very excited about.”
Metzger also introduced a new paid family leave program for county employees, who will receive a full salary for up to 12 weeks of maternity or paternity leave.
