Darcie Ortique joined the Spectrum News 1 team in November 2024 as a multimedia journalist. Darcie returns to Spectrum News after becoming one of the company's first fellows who graduated from the Spectrum News Fellow Program in Syracuse. Prior to returning to Spectrum News, Darcie worked as a multimedia journalist in Lafayette, Louisiana where she covered the 2022 tornado that destroyed the Iberia Medical Center, several unsolved cold cases, and enterprise stories highlighting Louisiana's arts and culture. Darcie is from Hartford, Connecticut and earned a master of science degree in broadcast and digital journalism from Syracuse University and a bachelor of science degree in journalism, with a minor in radio, television & film from San Jose State University.
Darcie is passionate about impact-driven storytelling and amplifying the voices of the people in and around her community. She also worked as a Washington bureau reporter in the nation's capital, covering the “summer of rage” and Women's March following the overturn of Roe v. Wade and the rise of the coronavirus pandemic.
When she's not working, Darcie enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, cooking new recipes, and exercising. Some of Darcie's hobbies are shopping and trying new restaurants.
