The new Hudson Valley Food Bank distribution center is getting closer to opening amid an increased demand for services. A full move from Cornwall to Montgomery will be complete in January 2025.
The more than 50,000-square-foot building will allow the food bank to double its staff and nearly quadruple its food storage. Large cooler and freezer spaces will allow for the stocking of more fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy and proteins.
According to the food bank, more than 11% of Hudson Valley residents are food insecure. Having the larger space and increased staff will help expand the food bank's footprint.
“Having dialogs, participating coalitions and trying to really figure out what agency partners can do, want to do, how they want to grow, how they want to collaborate, but also identify those places where there's a gap," said Tom Nardacci, CEO of the Regional Food Bank. "And if there's a gap, where can the food bank play a role to fill that need?”
