It may be the beginning of summer, but it's never too early to look at the football season.

There's change afoot at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, where the Army Black Knights play and are giving Michie Stadium a significant makeover.

The stadium was originally built 100 years ago, and has undergone several renovations and upgrades over the years.

Under the latest plans, the stadium's East stands have been demolished and will be rebuilt with new amenities and seating for the Corps of Cadets. The 160,000-square-foot structure will include premium seating and a new fan store, among other features.

“We've lost the road behind between the reservoir and the East stands," Army West Point Director of Athletics Mike Buddie said. "So a lot of reconfigurations that'll, again, lead to some confusion. So again, we ask you to visit Michie Stadium dot com as often as possible to anticipate these challenges and understand which gate to come into based on your parking situation.”

In addition, the "fully donor-funded" project will reconfigure the stadium’s surrounding landscape in an effort to improve accessibility and capitalize on the panoramic views of Lusk Reservoir, the Cadet Chapel, Fort Putnam and the Hudson Valley.

Construction is expected to finish by 2026.
