A bakery in Kingston is becoming the talk of the town.
It started when HBO host John Oliver purchased the contents of a nearby Red Lobster that went out of business.
Peter Deising, the owner of Deising's Bakery, playfully chided Oliver, saying on News 12 that local eateries were hoping to get their hands on some of Red Lobster's equipment.
Oliver responded, saying he would buy him the equipment if he made a John Oliver bear cake.
Deising says the cakes are selling like crazy. He’s using the publicity to give back to a worthy cause.
“I mean, we're just so grateful that we're getting this free kitchen equipment. And I figured the least that we could do is pay it forward by donating all proceeds of these cupcakes to a local food pantry, which is the People's Place, which is right here in Kingston,” Deising said.
He said he’s heard from the show.
Showrunners will deliver him the bakery equipment next week.
And he’ll gift Oliver a special cake to debut on his show.
