A power outage and generator failure at Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie led to more than a dozen people being moved to other hospitals.
Thirteen people in critical care were moved to different but nearby facilities.
Vassar Brothers officials said the outage was caused by a component that feeds electricity to the patient pavilion needing to be replaced.
Interim City Administrator Ron Knapp said Poughkeepsie’s building inspector was there to ensure restoration efforts went smoothly, and there would be no additional impacts in the near future.
“It’s one thing to hear it from the hospital, but to hear it from your own people…I put a lot of faith in our building inspector and that he’s properly monitoring it,” Knapp said.
Knapp credited the city’s emergency responders with their actions in moving patients without incident. Systems were back online at the hospital and fully operational.
