Kingston's plan to revitalize its waterfront received a huge boost on Thursday when news came it had received $21.7 million – the largest federal grant in its history – to construct vehicle, pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure in the area.
The project will promote a vibrant waterfront area and elevate portions of the roadway that will help during flooding, Rep. Pat Ryan said.
The funding comes through the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) grant program.
“This transformational investment will provide sustainable transportation options, good-paying jobs, and cement our waterfront as a landmark destination for Hudson Valley residents for decades to come," Ryan said in a statement Thursday afternoon.
Kingston Mayor Steve Noble said the project funding "will make an entire neighborhood safer, beautify the area, and will bring sustainable growth to the waterfront."
