Vice President Kamala Harris will be the speaker at the U.S. Military Academy graduation later this month, the academy announced Wednesday.

Harris is slated to be the first female commencement speaker in West Point's 221-year history.

"As an accomplished leader who has achieved significant milestones throughout her career, we look forward to her inspiring remarks to our cadets," said USMA Superintendent Lt. Gen. Steven Gilland.

The May 27 commencement will also be the vice president's first visit to West Point, according to the academy.
