A 22-year-old Middletown man was arrested and charged with killing a 74-year-old man Thursday morning on a Route 17 exit ramp at Route 302 in Wallkill, police said.

Wallkill police said they discovered the victim, Joel Laddy, of Wallkill, with at least one stab wound to his body in front of 2580 State Route 302 after responding to a fight in progress at the intersection at 9:43 a.m. Thursday.

Town of Wallkill Detective Sgt. Jeremy Warner and Police Officer Craig Cucci located and apprehended the suspect, identified as Horace Duke, in front of 2468 State Route 302, police said.

Laddy was taken to Garnet Health Medical Center Wallkill Emergency Medical Services, where he pronounced dead, according to police.

A police investigation into the case is ongoing.
