The woman killed in a police shooting at a Hyde Park residence last week armed herself with a knife and tried to stab police officers before they used a stun gun and then shot her, New York State Police said Monday.

Jamie M. Feith, 34, was shot and killed by Hyde Park Police Officer Johsua Kemlage at a home on North Cross Road while he, another town officer and a state trooper responded to a physical domestic incident at around 3:30 p.m. Friday, state police said in a statement.

Officers were initially successful in deescalating the altercation between Feith and a male subject at the residence, but she tried to stab the officers while they interviewed her, police said.

Kemlage discharged a department-issued firearm after a taser that was deployed failed to neutralize Feith, who died at the scene, police said.

The events leading up to and surrounding this incident are still under investigation by the state attorney general’s office.
