People in Orange County are making sure students who are headed back to the classroom this fall have everything they need.
845 Unity hosted book bag giveaways at several spots in the Middletown area.
Kids and parents came by and picked out a fully-stocked book bag of their choice filled with pens, pencils, notebooks, and of course, hand sanitizer.
After receiving an outpouring of community support, the organization says it's glad to be giving away more than 300 backpacks this school year.
“I’m not surprised by the generosity, I just didn’t know that we would receive this amount of donations. Because of the fact that so many other organizations have done drives, so I knew it would be successful, but I didn’t know it’d be successful on this scale,” said Allan McClain of 845 Unity.
The group hopes to continue this form of outreach by putting together a community "Trunk or Treat" for Halloween, as well as a coat and turkey drive around Thanksgiving.
