The world of barbers lost a legend last week.

Antonio Mancinelli held the Guinness World Record for the oldest working barber in the world died at the age of 108 last Thursday. Family and community members attended a funeral mass for him at St. Francis church in Newburgh Tuesday to remember the life of a master barber, husband, and father.

"Everybody knew him, “said his son Robert Mancinelli. "We're going to miss him, the whole world is going to miss him.”

A member of the Barbers Hall of Fame, Mancinelli made headlines across the globe, but he'll be missed most right here in New Windsor and Newburgh where he spent decades doing what he loved.

"Working with Tony, he told all these kinds of stories about how the barber pole with the red white and blue meaning blood bandages veins," said Antonio Mugnano, who worked with Mancinelli for decades.

Mugnano worked alongside Mancinelli at his family's shop, Antonio & Pasquale's Barber Shop, from the time he was 19 to just six years ago.

"When it came to work, if there were nine days a week or eight days a week, he would work every single day," said Mugnano.

Mancinelli was recognized as the world's oldest working barber in 2007 at the age of 98.

"He had a passion for cutting hair and it's something you can't learn that you're born with, it’s in you, it comes from inside, “said Mugnano.

Mancinelli retired in July from his post at Fantastic Cuts in New Windsor. Today his chair by the window sits empty as those that worked with him remember a man who loved his work.

"We're looking at the corner where he used to work he used to have all his awards and all his pictures from the senator from Italy from everywhere and now we see the corner that is empty and it's kind of sad, kind of sad not to see him there," said Angela Purino, who worked with him at Fantastic Cuts.

"The last thing he said to me I remember--as long as you love your job that's it, no matter what it is so he loves his job that's why he lasted this long 108, said Jeannie Negrinelli, another coworker from Fantastic Cuts.

Now many in the community are wondering who will cut their hair, including his son.

"That was my father, now I got to look for another barber," said Robert Mancinelli.
