New York State Sen. Jen Metzger is announcing funding to prevent Lyme Disease in the Hudson Valley on Thursday.

About $100,000 will be presented to the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies in support of their Lyme Disease prevention study — called the Tick Project.

The Hudson Valley and the Catskill region are among the hardest-hit regions in the state and New York is home to one of the country's highest confirmed cases.

In 2018, a record $1 million was added to the budget to help combat the disease but was zeroed out.

Sen. Metzger led a coalition that secured more funding that would enable organizations to continue their prevention efforts.

Despite increasing cases of tick-borne disease, the future of state funding beyond 2019 remains uncertain.
