The Poughkeepsie City School District officially has a new superintendent, the school board announced at a meeting Monday evening.

Dr. Eric Rosser will replace interim superintendent Dr. Kathleen Farrell, a little more than a year after former superintendent Dr. Nicole Williams resigned.

Rosser previously worked for Buffalo Public Schools, as director of Student Support Services. Board of Education President Felicia Watson says his experience makes him exactly what the district needs.

"One of the things the district has not been great at, is we have not been student-centered,” Watson said. “So we're looking forward to an individual who understands that education is a civil right, and students do take priority — and that will center and make decisions specific to students."

Rosser wasn't in town Monday but is expected to be at next Wednesday's board meeting.
