Former U.S. Senate candidate Chele Farley announced Tuesday she is running for Congress in 2020.

She will be competing for the 18th Congressional District seat, which has been held by Democrat Sean Patrick Maloney since 2012.

Some of the items on her agenda for the district include lowering property taxes, reducing energy costs and improving transportation infrastructure.

Farley, a Republican, said she supports President Donald Trump but isn't afraid to stray from party lines to protect the Hudson Valley's best interests.

"I think my skillset and background are uniquely qualified for this district,” Farley said. “I'm an engineer, so I understand the infrastructure, but I'm a finance person and a negotiator. We've got to go down and work with D.C.”

Farley ran for New York’s Senate seat against Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand in 2018.

The 18th district includes all of Orange and Putnam counties, as well as parts of southern Dutchess County and northeastern Westchester County.
