The Christmas spirit of giving just carried over into spring in Newburgh, as lumber from last year's Rockefeller Center Christmas tree was delivered on Friday.
It will go into homes for six families — which are being converted from vacant buildings on William Street by Habitat for Humnaity of Greater Newburgh.
This year's donation marks the fifth year in a row, making the act an annual tradiiton. A representative for Habitat for Humanity says it is something unique for those families involved.
"I'd have to imagine if you show the Rockefeller Christmas tree to people all over the world, they are going to know what it is and where it comes from. So the fact that it's going to be in the homes of families who are having their first opportunity to own a home, and have such a powerful symbol, has to be very special for them."
This year's Rockefeller Center Christmas tree originally grew just a few miles from where its lumber is being used for these renovations.
