Bethel Woods Center for the Arts has officially decked its halls, thanks to a year-long effort organized by Director of Operations Lauren Jahoda.

The outdoor and drive-thru lights display is in its second holiday season and has grown significantly since its inaugural season.

"We’ve added two new roads to the route," Jahoda said. "We just thought this was really the only way we could make the show what we want it to be."

Jahoda organized seven different themed areas that include thousands of lights. The piece de resistance takes place at the end of the 1.7-mile route on Groovy Way. It’s a testament to the fairgrounds’ history as home to the famous Woodstock Festival, as it includes a few thousand lights strung together to make a tunnel that is synced to a holiday playlist playing in the background.

"All these RGB lights speak to each other, speaking to the next arch, and creating patterns throughout the entire tunnel," Jahoda said.

Her team has been working on the annual project since the doors closed at the end of the last holiday season, buying new displays and creating the perfect holiday playlist.

"In May, listening to Christmas music to sync the lights to … who wants to listen to Christmas music in the spring?" Jahoda joked.

But she really has to start that early to perfect the displays by the start of the holiday season.

For Jahoda, the display has become somewhat of a lifestyle. She says she doesn’t do much decorating at home, since most of her energy for the holidays is channeled into the Bethel Woods event. Her team has been committed to finding the perfect set-up for guests.

It’s not exactly what she had planned when she first joined Bethel Woods, but she said she loves welcoming guests to drive through the course and thinks the history of the site translates to today’s use.

"I think they’d be really happy, because what’s more psychedelic than lights?" Jahoda said.
