The city of Kingston is getting a $113 million, newly renovated and reimagined addition to the Mary’s Avenue campus of the HealthAlliance Hospital system, equipped with the most advanced technologies. The grand opening of the new facility will be December 14.

Even though it’s just down the street from its old facility at the Broadway campus, it will be transferring about 100 patients to a 79,000-square foot building at the Mary’s Avenue campus.

What You Need To Know

  • A new addition to WMC Health Network's Mary's Avenue campus opens next week in Kingston

  • The two-story building comes amid a $113 million renovation project

  • It includes new units, laboratories and a pharmacy

In charge of this transfer is Dr. Tina Cocuzzo, the director of clinical and medical logistics for WMC Health Network. She says throughout the state, at least 11,000 patients have been transferred this year alone.

“Our goal is to get patients the right care that they need in the right place as quickly and effortlessly as possible,” said Cocuzzo.

Cocuzzo says this will be about a 12- to 16-hour transfer to get the patients into the new facility, but says she and her team are well prepared.

“We are contracting with a vendor who will provide we've been working with them since … the initiation of this probably six months ago,” Cocuzzo said. “We've contracted to provide the number of ambulances that we will need, so they were able to prepare in advance to make sure we have the resources that we're going to need for this day, and most importantly, to not impact the rest of the city.”

Health officials involved with the project say the new facility will have some of the most advanced medical technologies, thanks to a partnership with the Philips Ambient Experience, which they say includes the latest patient monitoring systems and diagnostic imaging technologies.

They add the technology is designed to create a calm and engaging experience for patients.

“But for me, I think the most significant innovation for the Mary’s Avenue campus and HealthAlliance Hospital is our single patient rooms,” said Dr. Michael Doyle, executive director and chief medical officer at HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley, “so when we open our rooms will be converted to single patient rooms, which has a very private healing environment for patients who are getting recovering from, you know, whatever illness whatever brought them to the hospital.”

Doyle says they have more than 1,000 staff members so far, but they are always looking to hire more because they want to make sure every patient gets a quality experience.
