A Bronx man has been indicted on charges related to the shooting of a Middletown Police officer two weeks ago.
According to the Orange County District Attorney's Office, Desean J. Owens, 29, was indicted on charges including attempted murder in the first degree, aggravated assault upon a police officer, criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, reckless endangerment in the frst degree, and criminal trespass in the first degree.
Owens is accused of shooting Middletown Police Officer Evan Barone while Barone was responding to a potential domestic incident on August 29. Barone returned fire, hitting Owens multiple times. Barone was discharged from the hospital last week.
The maximum sentence for Owens' charge of attempted murder is 40 years to life in state prison.
