As if we haven't had enough trouble from rain lately, more is expected today into Sunday.

What You Need To Know

  • Showers, storms and periods of heavy rain are the most concerning

  • There is a slight risk for severe weather today

  • A moderate risk is also present for flooding

Heads up if you are traveling today. We're expecting a round of thunderstorms to move in. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect until 11 p.m. tonight. Storms could produce very heavy rainfall in a short period of time.

There are a couple of concerns as these storms roll through. A couple of isolated storms could produce damaging winds in excess of 60 mph, which could down a few wires and trees, resulting in outages.

Hail could be up to one inch in diameter or greater, and of course, torrential rain is possible.

Accordingly, the Storm Prediction Center has put New York City, the Hudson Valley and the Capital Region under a slight risk for severe storms.

There's also a Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect until 11 p.m. tonight.

The biggest of these concerns is flooding due to already soaked ground and more rain to come. Low lying areas, areas near creeks, streams, waterways and poor drainage areas, will be the most susceptible.

We could see rapid river rises and even some flash flooding.

The Weather Prediction Center has put similar areas under a moderate risk for flooding. This is a 3 out of a scale of 4.

While we may see some breaks in the action Saturday evening, more heavy rain will develop and occur into the night in the form of thundery downpours. Rainfall rates could exceed 2 inches per hour at times.

If a Flash Flood Warning is issued for your area, that is the time to take action and move to higher ground. If you come across a flooded roadway, turn around and find an alternate route. You never know how deep the water is or the integrity of the road beneath the water.

After an unsettled, soggy night, we'll find a few more showers and storms throughout Sunday. Remain weather-aware throughout the weekend, and have a plan just in case!
