Syracuse has certainly had its fair share of hot and humid days in 2021.

Our second heat wave of 2021 occurred from June 26-29. The high temperatures during these four days were 90, 94, 96 and 94 degrees.

This came about three weeks after we experienced our first heat wave of 2021, from June 5-7. A heat wave is at least three consecutive days with a temperature of 90 or higher.

We’ve already had a total of 12 days with temperatures of 90 or higher in 2021 in Syracuse. Last year at this point, we had 14 days of 90 or higher.

At this time last year, we also had two heat waves. However, one of those heat waves in 2020 was an impressive seven-day stretch in early July.

You may remember the summer of 2020 was a hot and dry one. We had 21 days with temperatures of 90 degrees or greater in Syracuse.

The summer of 2020 tied for the third-warmest on record in Syracuse. Only time will tell how the summer of 2021 stacks up to that.
