Storms that pounded Central New York and the Southern Tier last night led to flooding roads and basements throughout Onondaga County and other parts of CNY.

Parts of CNY saw the highest concentration of rainfall in the state over the last 24 hours, according to the New York State Mesonet.

Interstate 81 was closed between Cicero and Brewerton for more than eight hours. The rain flooded the highway and disabled vehicles, according to the New York State Department of Transportation. All northbound lanes are open; southbound lanes remain closed.

There have also been issues along Route 690 between the Downer Street exit and the Van Buren Road exit. Route 48 and parts of the Thruway were also closed due to flooding.

The state Department of Transportation says 690 southbound remains closed this morning, while northbound lanes have opened.

In Liverpool, people dealt with flooding soon after the rains began early last night.

"It got about 5-6 feet into my yard, and it was probably 6-8 inches in the road," said Liverpool's David Poppe. "The grates just couldn't keep up with it. It's the worst I've seen it in probably like 20 years."

The Town of Clay saw problems as well with the Moyers Corners Fire Department reporting they responded to 60 calls over 7 hours, mostly for people with 2-3 feet of water in their basements.

Meanwhile, Onondaga County 911 dispatchers say the ceiling at Great Northern Mall partially collapsed during the storm last night.
