Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar is continuing to fight what he calls a staffing crisis through a new lateral transfer program.

That will allow for some corrections officers hired to have a $5,000 sign-on bonus paid out over two years.

It's only open to those corrections officers currently employed at local corrections facilities across the state.

Sheriff Akshar also announced that he is getting rid of the college requirement for corrections officers.
