New York Republicans will meet in Binghamton in mid-February to hold the party’s statewide nominating convention, the Broome County GOP announced Wednesday.

Republican county chairs, state committee members, party activists and local supporters will meet at the Doubletree by Hilton in downtown Binghamton Feb. 21-22 to conduct official party business.

It’s the first time in nearly 20 years Broome County will play host to a state Republican nominating convention.

“I’m proud to carry on the legacy of Republican success in the Southern Tier by rallying our base through these events, winning tough elections, and being a leader in the community,” said Broome County Republican Committee Chair Benji Federman.

This election cycle, the only statewide office on the ballot that the party will nominate for is one of New York’s seats in the U.S. Senate, currently held by Democrat Kirsten Gillibrand. Republican businessman Josh Eisen is currently a candidate.

Binghamton is also crucial this year as it sits in New York’s 19^th Congressional District, currently held by Republican Rep. Marc Molinaro, one of the House seats the GOP were able to flip in 2022 and is expected to be a competitive race again this year as control of the lower chamber in Washington may be up for grabs.
