The New York State Police and Federal Bureau of Investigations cracked a more than 32-year-old mystery in the Hudson Valley using investigative genetic genealogy.
Investigators identified "Baby Jane Doe," the burned remains of a child found Feb. 10, 1992, on South Plank Road in Wawayanda, and the infant's parents, State Police said in a statement Friday.
The investigation revealed the child, estimated to be no older than 10 days, had been "discarded" in the winter of 1991, State Police said.
Authorities identified the biological parents of the child through forensic genetic genealogy.
They questioned and investigated the father, who is not considered a suspect, and discovered the mother had died before closing the case, State Police said.
