Through nine games of his Syracuse career, Clarence Lewis has been impressed by the team’s ability to come together as one.
“The tightness of us, like the brotherhood we have, like the willingness to put it all out there for each other and willingness to really not want it to be over and keep pushing for each other,” Lewis said.
The Notre Dame transfer has been a standout on the defense.
“This is a change but it's a healthy change and I love it,” Lewis said of the decision to transfer to Syracuse this past spring.
His leadership is standing out to head coach Fran Brown.
“We've got a lot of young guys that are really good," Brown said back in the fall of his defensive backs room. "But you want that older hat, you know, just want to get somebody that had been in the game a little bit.”
As good as he is on the field, Lewis impresses off of it in the art studio as a talented artist. It's a passion that began long ago in grade school.
“I remember one time, it was like elementary school I think, I just had a drawing contest with some family members and that's the only way I found out I'm kind of good at art," Lewis said. "And over the years, I got more and more better at art. I started to like it more. At first you get stuck. Sometimes you don't really know where it's going to bring you, but it's like when you get that idea, it's like flooding. You could make art out of anything, honestly. I'm starting to get more into, like, fashion and stuff. So I started like art and all types of things not just painting and drawing as well.”
Brown said he wants to see Lewis accomplish everything he sets his mind to.
“Get drafted and be really good at or I would like to go to art gallery and see some of his paintings and things like that. So I think he's a good kid," he said.
If football doesn’t work out, Lewis knows his art career can take him anywhere.
“I'm extremely grateful that I got blessed with like ability to do art, and I'm just happy that I have something else to like pretty much bring my talents to like nine and just like football, but also having like a different mindset at art as well," Lewis said.
