Syracuse University is investigating hazing allegations made against a second fraternity, a university official said in a statement to students, faculty and staff on Tuesday.
After reviewing reports and evidence, SU on Tuesday issued an interim suspension to the Psi Upsilon fraternity, which suspends all activities there while an investigation is conducted, university Senior Vice President and Chief Student Experience Officer Allen Groves said. The conduct may have placed students at risk, and violate state law and university policies, he said.
"The reported behavior is degrading and has no place on our campus," Groves said of the allegations. "Any organization or individual who is ultimately found to have violated our policies will be held appropriately accountable."
The action comes after the university last week halted all Phi Kappa Psi activities while school leaders probe an alleged hazing incident there that jeopardized the well-being of students, SU Chancellor Kent Syverud said.
Community Standards and the SU Department of Public Safety are collaborating on both active investigations, and the university is working with the Syracuse Police Department to assess whether crimes were committed, Groves said.
