Syracuse University is investigating an alleged hazing incident.
In a letter to students, faculty and staff, SU Chancellor Kent Syverud said he was made aware of videos showing "repugnant" conduct that allegedly jeopardized the well-being of students at the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity house.
He said the university has issued an immediate interim suspension, halting all Phi Kappa Psi activities. The suspension remains in effect while the university conducts an investigation.
The Phi Kappa Psi national office has also ordered the Syracuse chapter to cease and desist any and all activities, Syverud said.
Hazing – and similar actions – violates Syracuse University policies and New York state law.
Syracuse University's Department of Public Safety has reached out to Syracuse Police, indicating charges could follow the ongoing investigation and those involved will be disciplined.
In a statement, Syverud said it is the school's priority to support any students who have been impacted, and officials are working with affected students to connect them with the necessary resources and services they need.
