The return of wide receiver Oronde Gadsden has certainly been a boost for the new look offense that the Orange look to roll out this upcoming fall. He's made some plays in practice, and seems to be the favorite so far for quarterback Kyle McCord.
But others are going to have to step up and take away some of the attention that Gadsden is going to get.
What You Need To Know
- Fall camp continues for the Syracuse football team
- Oronde Gadsden will be the primary receiver for SU, but others must step up
- So far, players are making their presence felt
So far, so good in camp.
Guys like Darrell Gill, Zeid Haynes and Jackson Meeks are all making plays. Meeks is returning from an injury in the spring. He's one of the guys that Fran Brown is hoping the offense can look to as well. He's grabbed a little bit of the leadership role. So far, Meeks is liking the way the wide receiver group is looking after clear cut number one around Gadsden.
"They are out there making plays," Meeks said. "They make an explosive, doing right, things like I can't really say too much more, like I really don't even have words. That's how good they're doing. So just to continue to see that and them pushing me. I don't know when it comes from my spot, like where I'm right. Or they could take my spot like, you know, just continue to have that competition. Competition. It pushes me every day to be better for myself."
Day five of practice is in the books. The Orange, once again, take the field Tuesday for six straight days to open camp before a day off. It's a chance to hear from some of the defensive players coming up on Tuesday.
