In presenting his State of the City address on Thursday, Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh set goals for the city and his administration.

"Syracuse will have 2,500 new units of quality housing completed or underway before I leave office at the end of 2025," Walsh pledged.

That includes, he said, redeveloping the Vincent and Skyline apartments, and replacing all Syracuse Housing Authority public housing units in the East Adams neighborhood.

There are also plans to start work on 40 new homes throughout the city this year with the group Home Headquarters.

"Most of the big projects that I talked about tonight will be opening just around the same time as Micron is opening up its doors, some after. So there's a great sense of urgency to get a lot more housing units online as quickly as possible," Walsh said.
