A significant animal cruelty case is coming out of Central New York, as the CNY SPCA Office seized 61 dogs this week from a house, leading police to arrest a woman on animal cruelty charges.

Troy Waffner, director of the CNYSPCA, visited the location where the dogs were staying, and said the living conditions were deplorable.

When he arrived, he saw the dogs living in urine and feces, and the house reeked of ammonia.

Waffner noticed holes in the walls, and said the dogs were never taken outside. The dogs range from a few days old to up to 14 years old, and are mostly beagles and beagle/chihuahua.

They’re now staying at the CNYSPCA, and have been checked by a vet and given vaccinations.

“You see them in these conditions and holes in the walls, the smell of ammonia, which is almost toxic for humans at some point," Waffner said. "You see these dogs, and they haven’t been let outside. She hasn’t opened the windows because she doesn’t want the neighbors to know that she has all these dogs, so the only thing the dogs know are the four walls of that house."

Waffner said they’re scheduling the dogs to be spayed and neutered. He hopes they will go up for adoption in a couple of weeks.
