Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon addressed the recent spike in violence at Destiny USA.
He said the county has been in touch with the mall's owner, Pyramid Management Group, and is open to further discussions with local officials and law enforcement about safety concerns.
For the county's part, McMahon said he's open to sheriff's deputies augmenting the Syracuse Police Department's presence.
In the meantime, he said mall management has asked for an increase in the number of probation officers patrolling the mall.
"If you are on probation and you're not supposed to be at the mall, there are people there who can violate you, and that is a bad outcome for you," McMahon said. "So those people that shouldn't be there should understand that there will be an even larger presence than there was before."
McMahon said while violence at the mall has become a problem, it's part of a broader trend that needs to be addressed.
