State lawmakers, like State Senators Rachel May and John Mannion, gathered in Syracuse Wednesday to find ways to make voting easier.
Mannion says much of the feedback he has gotten revolves around the need to give local election boards the flexibility to do their jobs. He says people also want more early voting sites.
May says she is working on legislation that would require training for county election officials.
"Those are kind of patronage appointments right now and they don't necessarily have the background to do the job when it becomes a more complicated issue," said May.
More hearings are scheduled across the state, with a final one in Albany come September.
